Qualifications

 Board Certification in General Surgery

General surgeons are specialists in the management of defined surgical diseases, not “generalists.” A general surgeon’s area of specialization includes the gastrointestinal tract, hernias, breast disease, thyroid and parathyroid disease, skin disease, some vascular and thoracic disease, and surgical management of traumatic injuries.

The surgeons of Loveland Surgical Associates are all board-certified in general surgery. Board-certified surgeons have met stringent requirements as specified by the American Board of Surgery (ABS).

Board-certified surgeons have the skill and knowledge base to successfully diagnose and treat a variety of surgical conditions. These skills are outlined by the American Board of Surgery on their website. To read about the ABS, the specialty of surgery, and board certification, see the links below.

The American College of Surgeons

The American College of Surgeons is the oldest professional medical society in the United States. The ACS was founded on the principle of providing continuing education of surgeons after initial training, and ensuring the safety of patients treated by surgeons with continued monitoring of a surgeon’s performance in caring for patients.

The surgeons of Loveland Surgical Associates are all members of the American College of Surgeons. After completing surgical training through a nationally approved surgical training program (surgical residency) and approximately two years in practice, a surgeon may apply to become a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. The surgeon must present a portfolio of completed patient care experiences, be recommended by his local peers, and be interviewed by a regional group of Fellows. If the surgeon meets all of these criteria, induction as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons is offered.
