Gallbladder Disease

Gallbladder Disease

The gallbladder is an accessory organ of the digestive system involved in the flow of bile from the liver into the small intestine. Gallbladder disease typically involves pain in the right upper abdomen related to spasms within the gallbladder wall, oftentimes shortly after eating. This pain can be related to gallstones, or an abnormally contracting gallbladder wall.

Gallbladder removal, or cholecystectomy, is one of the most common operations performed in the world. Cholecystectomy is performed with a laparoscopic approach in most cases. The laparoscopic approach allows faster recovery time and less pain in most cases. Variations in approach to laparoscopic cholecystectomy can allow the small scars needed to complete the operation to be placed in less apparent locations in some instances.

The surgeons of Loveland Surgical Associates will discuss your options and help you choose the best approach for removal of your gallbladder should you be suffering from gallbladder disease.
