Cancer of the Gastrointestinal Tract
Gastrointestinal cancer is the formation of malignant tumors in the digestive tract from abnormal cell growth. These cancers can be found in the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine (colon), or rectum. At times, associated organs such as the liver, pancreas, or gallbladder can be involved as well.
Treatment for gastrointestinal tract cancers can include surgical removal, chemotherapy, and radiation. Should you develop a gastrointestinal tract cancer that requires an operation, the surgeons of Loveland Surgical Associates can discuss your options and the best plan for you. Some gastrointestinal tract cancers can be removed with a minimally invasive (laparoscopic) approach, and some require a traditional incision.
